Major events each year for the Jr Woman’s Club include the Duncan Hines Festival, Coats for Kids, and the Holiday Bash. In addition to these, we also have monthly service projects and social events. Our service projects support prevention of domestic violence, child abuse, hunger and poverty. They also promote education, conservation, and arts in our community. Here are some club stats from 2011:
And further, during 2011, the Club gave more than $4,200 (excluding Duncan Hines Festival recipients) to over 24 worthy events and 19 different charities, including: Big Brothers Big Sisters, BRACAC, CASA, Crimestoppers, Family Enrichment Center, Hope Harbor, New Beginnings, Kids on the Block, BRASS, etc.
So far in 2012, we are preparing for a one day fundraiser in February and various fun events like Bowl for Kid's Sake and Spell-a-bration and the FEC Run & Walk for Children. We plan to give to more than 15 different charities. Those will include: American Red Cross, Community Action, Girl Scouts, Junior Achievement, MDA, and Orchestra Kentucky (in addition to some of those listed above).
Typical service projects include serving meals at Center for Courageous Kids, sorting inventory for Newborns in Need, picking up garbage along major highways, collecting clothes for victims of domestic violence, building houses for Habitat for Humanity, and donating non-perishable foods to Red Cross, Salvation Army and United Way. This is just a small list of everything we do for the community and we are always open to new ways to help others.
